Internal Wall Insulation Stirling

Internal Solid Wall Insulation Installers Stirling

Internal Wall Insulation in Stirling

Internal wall insulation also known as solid internal wall insulation or simply just wall insulation, is exactly what it sounds like, where you have the internal walls of your home insulated. The reason why it is also known as solid wall insulation is because homes in Ayrshire also have cavity wall inside of them. If you have solid internal walls, they let almost 100% more heat escape than cavity walls, meaning you should have them insulated to provide effective home insulation. In order to provide maximum heat retention you should also consider loft insulation, roof insulation and underfloor insulation

External wall insulation is another effective way to insulate your homes walls, however, this can’t always be installed and is very expensive.

Internal solid walls found in homes in Scotland, are generally made from brick, concrete or stone and have no gap between them meaning they can not be filled with cavity.

Why should I insulate my walls?

Up to 60% of heat produced by your homes central heating is lost through the walls and roof of your home. Around 40% of this heat is lost from your inside walls which can be prevented by installing effective internal wall insulation.

Approved Wall Insulation Installers Stirling

Envirosmart Limited are approved insulation installers for a wide range of insulation material, including wool and spray foam insulation. For sustainable wool insulation we install a variety of high quality insulation materials including Thermafleece sheeps wool insulation and Knauf Earthwool & Rockwool products.

The company rarely installs spray foam insulation due to issues with home insurance and the effects it can have on certain roofs. We are however Icynene approved installers meaning spray foam can still be fitted on more suitable commercial insulation jobs and certain types of domestic projects.

There are other insulation products we can install including SuperQuilt multifoil and rigid PIR insulation boards.

Given our vast experience installing these products, we know which material is best for the different kinds of  stone, brick and concrete internal solid walls, found in homes across Ayrshire.

What our clients say about us

Insultation in Scotland

Initially we contracted Craig and his team to provide insulation for two attic rooms which are either freezing or much too hot and they ended up fitting a new kitchen too.
We can't recommend this firm highly enough, especially for the way they helped us through the unexpected discovery of damp.

Communication and customer service were excellent; friendly helpful worker were punctual, hardworking and cleaned up thoroughly.
Highly recommended.

    What is Internal Wall Insulation?

Internal wall insulation is the process of insulation your homes internal walls, for there are two types of internal walls cavity walls and solid internal walls. When people say refer to either internal wall or solid wall insulation they are referring to internal solid walls and not cavity walls. Cavity wall insulation is a completely different process of installation, with different more suitable types of insulation material being fitted.

When installing solid internal wall insulation, you will be fitting on top of brick, stone, concrete, timber or even steel (although extremely rare for domestic properties).

Like most types of insulation, the goal is to create a barrier that will trap heat inside and keep the cold air outside! The installation of internal solid wall insulation is everything due to the thickness of the walls, some other types of home insulation can be done as DIY projects although this is not advised and it completely out of the question for fitting internal wall insulation.

    Internal Wall Insulation Installation

For effective internal wall insulation you will need to install the most suitable materials and be sure they are installed perfectly. The most suitable insulation materials are either PIR rigid insulation boards or mineral wool insulation that is fitted between wooden battens that are attached to your walls.

Envirosmart Limited tend to use install Knauf Earthwool or Rockwool insulation between wooden battens as this provides the best performance, ensuring there are no gaps between the outer layer of your internal walls.

    Internal Wall Insulation Benefits

Internal wall insulation has a wide range of benefits, we have listed the main one’s below:

When your internal walls are insulated one of the first things you might notice is that your bedrooms are warmer at night and there is less dependancy on your central heating system.

Much like all other forms of home insulation, internal wall insulation should mean that you don’t have to leave your central heating for as long as when your walls are uninsulated, meaning lower monthly central heating bills.

Like loft, roof and underfloor insulation, internal wall insulation will improve your homes EPC (energy performance certificate) rating.

Internal solid wall insulation provides soundproofing benefits, with many people commenting on noise travelling to their bedrooms seeming reduced at night time and in the early mornings.

Some homes in conservation areas require planning permission for installing other types of insulation, with internal wall insulation there is absolutely nothing like this needed.

Internal wall insulation is more flexible than other types of insulation as you can target certain rooms of your house that you want to improve the temperature in.

Internal wall insulation is very affordable, especially compared to external wall insulation which costs tens of thousands of pounds.

    Best Wall Insulation Materials

Internal wall insulation has to be attached to a solid wall which means it requires specific insulation materials that are more fit for purpose.

Mineral wool and PIR rigid insulation boards as the best type of material to use for internal solid wall insulation, listed below is more information on each of these products.

    Knauf Earthwool and Rockwool Insulation

Knauf is one of the world’s largest home insulation companies with over 40 years of experience manufacturing a wide range of insulation products.

Knauf Earthwool and Knauf Rockwool are two of the most popular types of insulation that we sell, largely because they offer great performance yet are still very affordable offering fantastic value for money.

They are made from mineral wool, which is sustainable material and debatably the best loft insulation product available if working to a budget.

    PIR Rigid Insulation Boards

PIR insulation boards come in different styles but the most common has an aluminium foil backing to each side, making them easily recognisable.

They are quick and easy to install, typically used as wall, floor and roof insulation and can also be bonded to plywood, plasterboard or have a glass tissue facing for use externally or in flat roofs. This makes them a versatile choice to suit a range of projects.

For loft insulation you can install PIR insulation boards at rafter level and then use loft insulation rolls at joist level, which further increases heat retention in your loft space.

    Bedroom Wall Insulation

The most common reason that homeowners in Ayrshire contact us to enquire is about internal wall insulation is cold bedrooms. They notice their bedroom is cold at night and when you wake in the morning and begin exploring options.

As we have mentioned previously all forms of home insulation are vital to reduce heat loss and retain warm air. You can however insulate specific rooms and parts of your home especially given the way internal wall insulation is fitted.

    Cold Bedroom Space?

Internal wall insulation can help if you have a cold bedroom space, however, it is also essential to make sure your windows and doors are of good quality too. Often we have installed new insulation for peoples bedroom walls and insisted that they have some new windows and doors fitted too, depending on their condition it can otherwise be quite counter productive.

    Internal Wall Insulation Grants Stirling

There are government funded grants available for internal wall insulation as part of the ECO scheme available to homeowners and tenants in Ayrshire.

Envirosmart Limited are TrustMark accredited, meaning we can install internal wall insulation using any grant funding you have been awarded.

To apply for an internal wall insulation grant, you should visit Home Energy Scotland who will guide you through your application. We are happy to assist you with this, meaning you will have an approved installer you can name when applying for your grant.

    Internal Wall Insulation Cost Stirling

Just like other home insulation or possibly even more so, with internal wall insulation it’s impossible to provide an accurate cost without knowing all of the exact sizes of your rooms and walls, including your wall depth from the inside to the outside, wether we need to remove existing insulation or have to install wooden battens to fit your insulation between.

We also need to discuss with you which material you would prefer, to arrive at an accurate cost for internal wall insulation in Stirling, it’s best to arrange a free home survey.
