Loft Insulation Greenock and Inverclyde

Approved Mineral Wool & Spray Foam Insulation Installers in Greenock and Inverclyde

Loft Insulation in Greenock and Inverclyde

Loft insulation is the most popular type of insulation installed in Ayrshire, it reduces heat loss by up to 45% and is probably the most effective type of home insulation that you can have installed. If you are looking to insulate your home and are working to a budget, we suggest that you have loft insulated first before any other areas such as internal wall insulation, underfloor insulation or roof insulation. Envirosmart Limited has a dedicated team of approved loft insulation installers in Greenock and Inverclyde  serving most of the country who are ready and able to provide a 5 star rated service. Your customer satisfaction and the effective installation of sustainable loft insulation is our number one priority.

Why should I insulate my loft?

60% of the power generated by heating is discharged into the walls and roofs of a house. 35% escapes from inside your walls and approximately 25% from the loft or attic space. Installation of loft insulation will help increase heat retention therefore reducing your monthly heating bill whilst maintaining an ideal air temperature in your room. Loft insulation also improves the quality of the air and makes your home and loft space cooler during the warmer summer months. Most properties are fitted with insulation on the roof but almost two thirds of the homes in Scotland are below the recommend 270mm or 11.5″ of insulation. Having your loft properly insulated will solve all of this.

Approved Loft Insulation Installers Greenock and Inverclyde

Envirosmart Limited are approved insulation installers for a wide range of insulation material, including wool and spray foam insulation. For premium sustainable wool insulation we install a variety of high quality insulation materials including Thermafleece sheeps wool insulation, the most popular type of loft insulation we install is Knauf Earthwool & Rockwool products.

The company rarely installs spray foam insulation due to issues with home insurance and the effects it can have on certain roofs. We are however Icynene approved installers meaning spray foam can still be fitted on more suitable commercial insulation jobs and certain types of domestic projects.

There are other loft insulation products we can install including SuperQuilt multifoil and rigid PIR insulation boards.

Given our vast experience installing all of these products, we know which material is best for the different kinds of loft and attic spaces found throughout parts of Scotland.

    What is Loft Insulation?

Loft insulation is when you install materials in your loft space that work as a barrier for the spaces in your roof. Loft insulation can either be fitted between your roofs rafters or the joists on the floor.

Effective loft insulation should prevent or at the very least reduce heat transfer between the cold air outside your home and the comfort of indoors.

The goal is to improve heat retention which loft insulation has been shown to do by up to 45%!

It should also make for better air quality meaning it can make your home cooler in summer months, with less stuffy and clammy conditions.

Loft insulation will improve your homes EPC (energy performance certificate) and ensure you get more value on any money spent on modern central heating, double glazing and secure doors.

    Loft Insulation Benefits

There are a wide range of benefits to having loft insulation fitted in your home, the leading benefits are listed below:

Loft insulation can improve your homes heat retention by up to 45%.

As a result of the improved heat retention benefits provided by loft insulation, your home should heat quicker requiring less time with your central heating turned on, therefore your monthly heating bills will decrease.

Loft insulation is an effective way to improve your homes EPC (energy performance certificate) rating. It is recommended that homes in Scotland have an EPC rating of D or higher.

Loft insulation has some soundproofing benefits, especially if you opt for a thicker millimetre of insulation. Options tend range up to 500mm, however, the average recommended depth is 270mm.

Professional loft insulation installers will look for any drafts and gaps in your loft space, Envirosmart Limited will seek to eliminate any drafts as part of your installation.

Effective loft insulation will reduce dampness both in the air and on areas that are insulated over in your roof or loft space.

When installed correctly loft insulation will improve the air quality, making for cooler air in the summer months, making your home and loft space less stuffy and easier to breath.

    Best Loft Insulation Material

Deciding which material to use to insulate your loft is a bit of a minefield!

Envirosmart Limited’s team of approved insulation installers are trained to install a wide range of home insulation products, we can advise on which one is best for your home and circumstances.

Listed below are some of the best loft insulation materials you will find in the UK marketplace, all of which we can supply and fit for you.

    Knauf Earthwool and Rockwool Insulation

Knauf is one of the world’s largest home insulation companies with over 40 years of experience manufacturing a wide range of insulation products.

Knauf Earthwool and Knauf Rockwool are two of the most popular types of insulation that we sell, largely because they offer great performance yet are still very affordable offering fantastic value for money.

They are made from mineral wool, which is sustainable material and debatably the best loft insulation product available if working to a budget.

    ThermaFleece Sheeps Wool Insulation

ThermaFleece sheep’s wool is exactly what it sounds like!

Their CosyWool and UltraWool where the very first and are still the leading insulation material made from sheep’s wool in the United Kingdom.

ThermaFleece’s head office is based in Penrith in the Lake District, with their manufacturing aptly being carried out in Yorkshire, often dubbed “the heart of British Wool”.

ThermaFleece is a more premium prices product, however it is highly effective and has always performed fantastically well on all of the installations we have managed.

You could certainly argue a case for ThermaFleece sheep’s wool being the best loft insulation material in terms of overall performance.

    SuperQuilt Foil Insulation

SuperQuilt is one of the UK’s leading multifoil home insulation materials.

This flexible, easy to install, multilayer insulation offers tremendous thermal benefits.

The benefit of multifoil insulation is that it is suitable for a range of applications from roof and loft insulation, floor insulation and wall insulation and due to the slim depth, you can save valuable space on your installation.

The unique composition of the product effectively deals with all forms of energy transfer.

    PIR Insulation Boards

PIR insulation boards come in different styles but the most common has an aluminium foil backing to each side, making them easily recognisable.

They are quick and easy to install, typically used as wall, floor and roof insulation and can also be bonded to plywood, plasterboard or have a glass tissue facing for use externally or in flat roofs. This makes them a versatile choice to suit a range of projects.

For loft insulation you can install PIR insulation boards at rafter level and then use loft insulation rolls at joist level, which further increases heat retention in your loft space.

    Icynene Spray Foam Insulation

Envirosmart Limited are Icynene accredited sales agents. We have kept this accreditation so that the company can still provide the option of spray foam insulation, which in certain circumstances can be the best.

Some examples of these circumstances are commercial insulation jobs for cladded roofs in large industrial estates and warehouses.

Spray foam applies well to this type of space, which can also apply to certain domestic properties and garden buildings.

Icynene are the pioneers of spray foam insulation, being the market leader worldwide since it launched in 1986.

To some degree there is no limit to the thickness of insulation you can use in your loft, within reason of course.

Some people have been known to install loft insulation up to 500mm in depth!

    Top Tips For Loft Insulation

    Envirosmart's Loft Insulation Top Tips

    1. Choose the right type of insulation: There are various types of insulation available, including mineral wool, blown-in insulation, and rigid insulation boards. Choose the type that suits your loft and your budget.

    2. Install the insulation correctly: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully when installing the insulation. Ensure that you don’t leave any gaps or spaces where air can leak in or out.
    3. Use the correct thickness of insulation: The thickness of insulation needed depends on your home and your location. Generally, a depth of 270mm is recommended for loft insulation in the UK.
    4. Seal gaps and cracks: Before installing insulation, seal any gaps or cracks in the loft to prevent air from escaping or entering. This will also help to prevent moisture from entering the loft space.
    5. Provide ventilation: Ensure that there is enough ventilation in the loft to prevent condensation from building up.
    6. Avoid compressing the insulation: Compressing the insulation can reduce its effectiveness, so ensure that you don’t squash it or put any heavy items on top of it.
    7. Check for existing insulation: Before installing new insulation, check if there is any existing insulation in the loft. If there is, ensure that it is in good condition and doesn’t need to be replaced.
    8. Seek professional help: If you’re unsure about the insulation process, or if you need to install insulation in a difficult-to-reach area, seek the help of a professional insulation installer.
